Dear Voter,
Hi! Thanks for a few moments of your time. I am writing to
ask West Wilco Dems to help Indivisible 1431 with a project of mutual interest
(I hope).
Indivisible 1431 is launching a calling campaign to pressure
U.S. Congressmen John Carter and Michael McCaul to hold Town Halls during the
upcoming recess March 13-23. (Indivisible 1431 was formed in December to unite
folks living along the FM 1431 corridor in Travis County and Wilco. We are
focused on protecting democracy, fighting fascism, and assisting endangered
populations. We are affiliated with the national Indivisible organization.)
Please help us!
We ask that you ask your members in Districts 10 / 31 to
call Carter / McCaul to demand they hold town halls during the recess. Our
suggested script is very short, and easy to use.
(As you know, the GOP Congressional leadership is
discouraging its members from holding town halls. Sounds like a great time to
demand one!)
Our goal is to persuade the Congressmen to hold town halls,
or, alternatively, to inform the press and the public about their refusal to
meet with constituents, despite dozens (even hundreds!) of succinct phone
calls. The latter is the more likely outcome.
Either way, to make an impact, we need to maximize the
number of calls!
Please ask your great members to keep a log of their calls:
Please track:
-- Representative’s name
-- date of call
-- Reach anyone? Y/N
-- Leave voicemail? Y/N
-- Attempted: busy, no answer, etc
Suggested script
Here is our simple suggested phone script:
My name is [NAME], and I’m Congressman [NAME]’s constituent
from [TOWN].
I’m calling to strongly urge Congressman [NAME] to
hold a town hall during the March 13-23 Congressional break. I wish to hear the
Congressman explain his response to the Administration’s mass firings and
dismantling of federal agencies, among other shocking actions.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please respond
with time and location of town hall.
IF LEAVING VOICEMAIL: Please leave your full
street address to ensure your call is tallied.
END OF SCRIPT

What about other red Districts? Feel free to ask your
members to call Republicans in other districts, as well. Democrats too, for
that matter. Doubtless you have these Congressmen’s contact info, but if not,
the information is available at https://www.house.gov/representatives.
Enter the ZIP in the upper right corner beneath “FIND YOUR
REPRESENTATIVE.”
(Occasionally a five-digit ZIP lies in multiple
Congressional districts. In such a case, a nine-digit ZIP or the full address
is necessary)
Thank you for your attention, and your energy in these
difficult times.
Let’s work together to impact Congress!
