- APS - Ask Party Support. This will either be APS-Dem or APS-Rep. APS-Dem means that they lean Democrat, but probably
do not declare themselves a Democrat.
- BBM - Ballot-by-Mail – The process of voting via mail in lieu of casting a ballot in person at a polling
location. Also known as VBM for Vote By Mail.
- BMD - ExpressVote BMD (Ballot Marking Device) – An electronic device the voter will use to make their
selections in an election. The BMD will print a ballot that will be scanned into the DS200 for tabulation
- CAB - Citizens Advisory Board - John Bucy started CABs to explore healthcare, environmental, and many other issues.
- CAL - Commission Area Leader - In Wilco we divide the precincts based on the first digit for guidance and leadership purposes.
- CA2 - Commission Area Two - Sometimes called Precinct 2. If your voting precinct starts with a 2, you are in CA2.

- ERCOTElectric Reliability Council of Texas is the "nonprofit" organization that "manages" electric power for most of Texas.
- ESG - Environmental, Social Governance
- ETJ - Extra Territorial Jurisdiction - This is an unincorporated buffer area outside of any city limits. They do not vote
in city elections.
- FPCA -Federal Post Card Application – A federal form used by members of the United States military,
their spouses and dependents as well as US citizens that are temporarily living outside of the US to
register to vote and request mail or email ballots.
- GOTV - Get Out The Vote - A campaign to, well, get out the vote.
- HOA - Home Owners Association - In a neighborhood that has mandatory dues and rules about things like political signs.
If you do not follow the rules you can be fined. If you do not pay dues or fines, you can be sued.
- JGSE - Joint General Special Election is what the Wilco Elections Department calls the midterms.
- LCR - Log Cabin Republicans
- LEEF The Leander Educational Excellence Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to enriching the educational experience of children.

- LIFT Project LIFT (Local Investment in the Future of Texas) is a key program of the Texas Democratic Party that provides recognition and additional support for municipal, school board, and community college trustee candidates who identify as Democrats. While municipal offices are non-partisan, we are invested in getting leaders elected to these positions who will govern in a way that promotes Democratic Party values today. Project LIFT also allows us to build the bench of rising stars across the state.

- MUD - Municipal Utility District - This is an area that supplies their own utilities and thus does not pay city taxes, or
vote in city elections.
- NA - Neighborhood Association - In a neighborhood that has voluntary dues. They do not have rules about things like political signs.
These groups are formed to voluntarily take care of neighorhood entrances and have events.
- PAL - Precinct Area Leader - What a CAL should have been and should be.
- PC - Precinct Chair, not politically correct, although Precinct Chairs are expected to be politically correct.
- PEC - Pedernales Electric Cooperative. This is where most of us get our electricity.
- PUC or PUCT - Public Utility Commission of Texas. The Public Utility Commission of Texas regulates the state's electric, telecommunication, and water and sewer utilities, implements respective legislation, and offers customer assistance in resolving consumer complaints.
- PUD - Planned Unit Development.
- RFD - Regional Field Director - These people were hired to assist Precinct Chairs and tackle orphan precincts.
- ROW - Right of Way - Where you cannot put political signs.
- SBOE - State Board Of Education. The State Board of Education (SBOE) sets policies and standards for Texas
public schools. The primary responsibilities of the SBOE include:
- Setting curriculum standards
- Reviewing and adopting instructional materials
- Establishing graduation requirements
- Overseeing the Texas Permanent School Fund
- Appointing board members to military reservation and special school districts
- Providing final review of rules proposed by the State Board for Educator Certification
- Reviewing the commissioner's proposed award of new charter schools, with authority to veto a recommended applicant
- SDEC
State Democratic Executive Committee — known as the SDEC (txdem.co/SDEC)
— carries on the activities of the party in communities across Texas and conducts party business in committees. The SDEC
is composed of leaders from Texas’ 31 senate districts elected at every State Convention and caucus representatives
elected by their caucuses, as well as the Party Officers
(txdem.co/Officers) who are elected at Gubernatorial Year
State Conventions or appointed by the State Chair.
- SOR - Statement Of Residence - – A form that must be completed at the polling place by any voter with
an “S” (suspense) voter registration status as noted in VoteSafe or by any voter that indicates he or she
has moved away from the residence address listed in VoteSafe
- SOTU - State Of The Union - The State of the Union Address is an annual message delivered by the president of the
United States to a joint session of the United States Congress near the beginning of most calendar years on the current
condition of the nation.
- SUD - Special Utility District. Hutto has one.
- TDP - Texas Democratic Party - The WCDP follows the rules of the TDP.

- TEA - Texas Eduction Agency – This is the state agency that oversees primary and secondary public education.
- TEAM - Texas Election Management System – This is the State database used to check the registration
of voters.
- TIRZ - Transit Oriented Development.
- TOD - Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone - TIRZs are governed by Chapter 311 of
the Texas Tax Code. There are more than 180 TIRZs throughout Texas. TIRZs are used as forms of tax increment financing, which is an economic development tool to incentivize both development and redevelopment.
- TT-Med or TT-Infreq - Turnout Targets Medium Propensity or Infrequent Voters.
- VAN - Voter Activation Network - AKA Texas VAN or TDP VAN. Become a PC and find out about this.

- VDR - Voter Deputy Registrar - This is a person who is trained to sign up citizens to register to vote.
